In Explore, teams of students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by a LEGO Education robot.  Teams will learn about the basics of motors, coding, and engineering while engaging in critical thinking.  Each year there is a different theme that the students learn about.  The season concludes with an end-of-the-year celebration where students showcase their LEGO models and poster board.  Here are some findings from the program:

Question and Answer

If you have a question that isn't answered below, feel free to email joinateam@wolcottrobotics.org

Are parents required to stay for the program?

Parents are not required to stay, however, they are more than welcome to watch the program and try to get involved if they wish.  We always welcome help and support from parents!

Are there any program costs?

There is a registration fee of $35 that you will have to pay when you register your child.   If you have any trouble paying this fee, email foundation@wolcottrobotics.org.

What is Remind and how do I join?

Remind is the communication system that we use for our programs.  This allows mentors to send out messages to all parents and enables parents to directly message the mentors.  Instructions on joining Remind are included in the registration form.  Parents are required to be on Remind if they register their child for the program.

What is the next step after FIRST LEGO League Explore?

The program after FIRST LEGO League Explore is FIRST LEGO League Challenge (see the page on this program for more information).

Do I need to be from Wolcott or enrolled in the Wolcott Public Schools?

Students are required to attend the Wolcott Public Schools to register for the FIRST Lego League Explore Program.  Parents of students outside of the Wolcott Public Schools are welcome to create their own teams and can email ymacary@wolcottrobotics.org for more information.

How can I support the Wolcott Robotics Programs?

Wolcott Robotics Foundation members will send info about fundraising efforts on Remind, so if you'd like to help support our cause please keep a lookout.

What if we can't make every single session?

We understand that students may have to miss a session or two, however, we strongly encourage students to make as many sessions as possible, if not all of them.  Students will be working as a team and the program is cumulative.  The program is less beneficial to students who miss sessions often.

What is the end of the year celebration?

The end-of-the-year celebration allows students to showcase their work along with teams from across Connecticut.  Specific information about the location and date of the celebration will be provided by team mentors.
